I couldn't put down the Sunday, Jan. 16
Northern Life. I kept finding myself reading over and over the
story about the 11-year-old young lady named Page Levesque
concerning the issue of Pius XII school dress code.
When did we lose sight of teaching our kids,
which are our future, social skills and respect for fellow
students, teachers and the principal?
When did we accept the fact as a society that
one's hair or hairdo for that matter would interfere in one's
teaching capability or learning capacity?
Just how many teachers at Pius XII have
"natural hair colour."
It's beyond me to even try to make sense of
this nonsense. Don't we have enough problems in this world of
ours without creating one more.
I give Page an "A" on her report card for her
creativity, self-expression and assertiveness.
There is a difference in peer pressure and
self expression. Perhaps the principal might just learn
something from the younger generation.
I mostly appreciated the fact Page's parents
are standing by their daughter. We are all so darn busy these
days to even have the time to know what's
happening in our children's lives.
I only wish there were people like Page out
there. I wouldn't be so concern about our future.
