Honest politicians not younger voters needed - Leo Bisson

Regarding the story in the April 6 edition of Northern Life (Lowering voting age to 16 might improve turn out, or not), I asked my daughter, who is 17, two questions: If we were to vote today, who would you vote for mayor?; If there was a federal election, who would you vote for?

She answered she did not know but that she would vote the same way I did.

So if a big percentage of young people vote like their parents, what decision are we really making?

My suggestion is that we make our politicians accountable for what they say in the campaign. Maybe we would have bigger turnouts because people might just gain a little respect (for them).

If we put a couple of them in jail for lying, then we might turn the table around and have an honest political campaign.

Sending young people to the polls who have no clue (about who to vote for) will not answer our problems. No disrespect meant to those kids that are
knowledgeable.
