Letter: Doug Ford’s plan is ‘to break’ the health-care system

Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas is on the mark when she slams greedy nursing agencies for draining our publicly funded and delivered health-care system of desperately needed funding.

The Ontario Nurses’ Association wholeheartedly supports Bill 144, a private members’ bill to limit spending on health-care staffing agencies. Tragically, we do not expect that the current Progressive Conservative government will pass this very sensible bill, as funnelling our taxpayer dollars to these greedy corporations is seemingly part of Doug Ford’s plan to break the system, then use it as an excuse to fully privatize health care.

The people of Sudbury are fortunate to have as strong an advocate for all that is good for people. Gélinas is correct that some agencies are charging as much as 300-per-cent more than it costs the system to employ staff nurses.

Health Minister Sylvia Jones and her government are intentionally failing the people of this province as they encourage corporate greed to bankrupt our public health-care system. We encourage people to fight back – before it’s too late and this government has destroyed an invaluable public service.
