Letter: Explore Sudbury walk truly an educational experience

'Future events will continue to remind us what a stunning city we call home.'

Explore Sudbury recently led a tour of the city's downtown, visiting the many murals created by talented and thoughtful artists recruited by the We Live Up Here festival of past years. File photo.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, I had the pleasure of joining a walk led by Sharon Roy, one of the urban hike leaders of Explore Sudbury, a new venture of Rainbow Routes Association.

Explore Sudbury's mandate is to remind us that we live in a dynamic community with outstanding people, that it's alright to be proud of our city, that we are steeped in history, endowed with beauty and chard and that we are fortunate to live in such an exciting place.

Explore Sudbury will also continue Rainbow Routes' objective to make Sudburians more physically and mentally healthy while encouraging a greener transportation option.

Sharon's walk was an interpretation of the many murals created by talented and thoughtful artists recruited by the We Live Up Here festival of past years. She astutely enlisted two representatives of Up Here, Nico Glaude and Christian Pelletier, to share with the 45 participants of the walk the intended meanings of these murals. Both were highly knowledgeable and eloquent speakers.

It should be noted that they were touched to be included in the walk and bring Up Here's message to a wider audience. We were equally touched. The result was a synergy that transcended the objectives of both.

I would like to thank the many people who came out, despite the weather and, of course, Sharon Roy, who really gets it. You all make Sudbury a better place.

Future events will continue to remind us what a stunning city we call home.
