Ward 11 Coun. Lynne Reynolds weighs in on the situation with city's volunteer firefighters.

The following letter is in response to the situation involving volunteer firefighters in Greater Sudbury.

Here’s what I can’t tell you and why:

First and foremost, let me say unequivocally that our mayor and council have been working diligently on this issue and are in total control of the situation.

Here’s why we can’t share it with the public at this time:

The Municipal Act restricts us from divulging items discussed in our closed sessions. These usually include legal, personal and property acquisitions and are confidential matters that any citizen would rightfully expect. In these sessions, council directs our staff to take certain actions.

We hear our citizens. We share their concerns. We regret that we cannot answer their questions. Please be patient and trust that your council will always be fully transparent at the appropriate time and do what is in their best interest of our city and its citizens.

I, for one, am standing firmly with my elected colleagues.

Lynne Reynolds
Councillor, Ward 11
