Letter: You're always welcome at We Help Each Other

I have a story to tell about our club — We Help Each Other (WHEO) — which has been in Sudbury for almost 52 years. Yet, it is not a well-known club, but is remarkable for the following reasons.

There is no age limit, no discrimination regarding gender, language or religion. Can you believe that? English is predominant, and a short prayer is said before and after meetings and meals.

We have no sponsor, and we are fully self supporting.

We get together every Monday night at 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Parkside Centre in downtown Sudbury. There are no parking problems, which is great in nasty weather.

At this time, we play three card games every evening: Uno, 500 and cribbage. We used to play darts, and we had dances quite often.

We have a catered dinner at Christmas and Thanksgiving, a Chinese dinner, often Mother's Day or Father's Day, a pot luck supper now and then, a picnic in July and a corn roast in August.

At present, we have a rather small membership, but there's lots of room for new members. Why not drop in any Monday and check us out? You are most welcome at the Parkside Centre.
