The members of the Memorial Society of
Northern Ontario are saddened to learn of the death of former
society president, Jacques Farand.
Farand was elected to the society board for a
three-year term in 1994 and served as its president and chair
during 1995-1996.
Farand was a funeral director and, thus, his
election and subsequent appointment as president of a memorial
society were most unusual.
That the members of the society honoured him
in this way speaks volumes for his professionalism and ethical
principles. For, in both his career as funeral director and his
role as volunteer with the Memorial Society, Farand believed
the public interest was paramount.
As part of the society's 25th anniversary
celebration in June of this year, we would have recognized
Farand personally for his contributions to the society's work.
That being no longer possible, we extend our deepest sympathy
to his family and to the profession he served so well.
