Messsage clear - Richard L Paquette

Sudbury's Anti-War Mobilization on Jan. 18 was well attended by more than 250 people. The message was clear. No to war! No to racism! No war on Iraq, even if it is sanctioned by the UN Security Council.

Sudbury's Anti-War Mobilization on Jan. 18 was well attended by more than 250 people. The message was clear. No to war! No to racism! No war on Iraq, even if it is sanctioned by the UN Security Council. The mobilization consisted of an indoor rally, a march through the streets of downtown Sudbury, and a discussion forum. The march included stops at the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre, MP Diane Marleau's office, and the federal building on Cedar Street where speakers expressed their views on the proposed war.

The group consisted of NDP members and leaders, union leaders, church leaders, student activists, seniors, students, university professors and children. Drummers, radical cheerleaders and the chanting of anti- war slogans kept the crowd warm and enthused. This was followed by a forum where all were free to speak and express their views. Topics included the plan of attack for further mobilizations and the root causes of these conflicts. The discussion was fruitful with a diverse range of opinions raised.

On Feb. 15 at Tom Davies Square there will be another pro-peace anti-war demonstration starting at 1 pm.
