There is construction of new homes on Second
Avenue, so we have had to deal with construction trucks
travelling on our street.
I am writing in regard to what could have
been a tragedy concerning my six-year-old son. On March 24, my
son arrived at his bus stop in front of our
Fourth Avenue home. His bus stopped, had the
flashing lights on and stop arm out.
As my son was getting off his bus, a
construction truck was approaching . The bus driver, seeing the
truck wasn't slowing down, began frantically to
beep her horn. The truck drove right past the
bus, then stopped and proceded to back up.
At this time, my son was coming in front of
the bus. My son's grandfather was in the driveway and began
yelling at the truck driver because a child
was crossing. Finally, he did stop.
I am concerned about the safety of our
children coming off their school buses.
I urge all drivers, especially those who
drive construction trucks, to pay attention on our roads and
obey buses' flashing stop lights so our children
arrive home safely.
