Here we are at the bottom again and our
politicians say we are getting a "bad rap."
I guess they never drive down Barrydowne Road
and feel the condition of the road or drive down Paris Street
to see our half finished hospital, or drink water in the South
End, or try to understand our new municipal government.
Former mayor Jim Gordon and council have
failed us badly over the past 10 or so years. In order to be
re-elected, they did not raise taxes and let our city
deteriorate. They have hidden behind higher user fees, higher
water rates, tipping fees, closed recreational facilities and
on and on.
Had taxes been raised just one per cent per
year over the past 10 years, we would not be in the mess we are
today.
At least Mayor David Courtemanche and council
have had the guts to start the process.
There is one good thing about all this. It is
getting very crowded and dangerous down south. Up here we can
still go fishing and enjoy our cottages.
Keep it up boys and girls, I'm a happy
camper.
PS. The $300,000 that will be spent on
selling the city could best be spent on fixing Barrydowne Road,
as many visitors use it and will stop coming if
we do not do something about our roads.
