Saying bye to a friend - Saying bye to a friend

Peter Szumylo, who passed away earlier this month, was a correctional officer at Cecil Facer Youth Training Centre. For 15 years, he aided wayward youth in turning their lives around helping them to see other options. A call came in to the family recently from a former resident who had left Facer and went on to higher education and to own his own business.

This youth was so taken by Peter's influence on him that he is flying in from Calgary for the memorial service. Peter was one of those guys who gave himself fully to others. Even in conversation he would become fully immersed. Peter was a board member of the Big Brothers Association of Greater Sudbury. He loved youth and he loved animals. Peter was a wonderful family man. His virtues and traits can be readily seen within his children. He, along with his wife Lena, created a welcoming, warm home which always had an open door to friends and those in need. Wherever you go Peter, we know you will be doing great things. We miss you but understand we need to let go as well.
