Setting record straight - Stephen Butcher

I am writing to you today to express my concerns with the article headlined, Foreign doctors shouldn't be allowed, in the June 11 edition.

The reporter has taken extreme liberties with my comments and edited them so much my meaning and true purpose of the statement was lost. The edited version of my comments completely changed what I said.

The students at Lively District Secondary School were discussing bringing Third World doctors to Canada.

I stated, "I, Stephen Butcher, has a concern with Canada, one of the wealthiest nations in the world, which graduates more than 700 doctors each year, bringing immigrant doctors from Third World or developing nations, where doctors are in very short supply, into Canada to work as doctors. We are, in effect, taking doctors from Third World countries where they are extremely hard to replace."

As well, at no time did I indicate how many (Canadian) doctors leave for the United States.
