Thinks international flags on bridge would fly - Ursula Sauve

I congratulate the mayor on his recent State-of-the-City Address - it was a most inspiring and uplifting speech. I completely agree we have the ability and opportunity to build Ontario's foremost lifestyle city right here in Sudbury.

I like the mayor's vision and commitment to work towards a community based on Bruce Mau's principles. Some of the goals will need a lot of planning
and capital investment but others might be attainable without major tax dollars.

David Courtemanche mentioned he would like to see the Paris Street bridge transformed into a unique feature and create a connection between Ramsey Lake and the downtown. He also would like to make our city a welcoming destination for Canadian immigrants. Please let me explain my vision of the
Paris Street Bridge.

There are more than 50 different nationalities living in our city. I would suggest that the Paris Street bridge be transformed into a "Bridge of Nations," an "International Bridge," a "World Bridge" or a "Flag Bridge."

The Canadian flag would fly in the middle or at either end. Flag poles would then be attached on both sides the entire length of the bridge. Having flags from all over the world blow in the wind would indeed create a festive, colorful and welcoming atmosphere all year around.

I would be more than happy to donate the first flag, the flag of my country of origin, Switzerland and then take the lead and encourage all other
nationalities represented in Sudbury to donate a flag and pole of their various countries.

Thousands of locals and visitors pass the Paris Street bridge every day. The "Flag Bridge" will be our testimony to multiculturalism, world peace, acceptance, open-mindedness and unity. Visitors from all over the world would feel an instant welcome upon entering our community and Sudburians
would have a unique and inspiring bridge to be enjoyed on a daily basis.
