As a concerned paramedic student, I am
responding to the article Hospital CEO's salary "in line" with
colleagues printed in the April 8 edition.
Our health-care system is in trouble and
health-care workers (paramedics and nurses) are underpaid and
treated unfairly. It seems to me taxpayers'
money is being spent on the CEO's increased
salary as opposed to improving the quality of care for the
patients.
If the CEO's salary can be in line with the
salaries of her counterparts down south, why not do the same
for the health-care workers? Paramedic
workers in Sudbury and other areas of the
north are certainly not paid the same as their counterparts in
the south.
The Sudbury community often wonders why young
people, particularly health-care students, do not stay in the
north after graduation. Offer us full-time
employment, the same salary and benefits as
our co-workers in the south and we will stay in the
north.
