Thanks to Molly R. Hancock for saying what I
should have said more than a decade ago about Viki Mather.
(Reader enjoys In the Bush, April 2.)
I wish to emphasise the fact that Mather goes
beyond the bush, and spreads into other areas of our life. In
fact I was so highly impressed with her
stories in Northern Life on Feb. 18, 1990 and
Feb. 3, 1992 that I kept a copy of both.
There are 3Rs in our future: reduce, reuse
and recycle and people can stop flow of junk mail. For the
benefit of others I have circulated them widely. Besides, I
followed her suggestions to stop junk mail. I am pleased to
state that I have not received a piece of junk mail for
years.
Besides the 3Rs that we all know about, I
have been advocating a fourth R: refuse. By politely saying
"No, thanks," we create an environment where we can comfortably
refuse to accept things we do not want.
Until that time the affluent part of the
world cannot claim fairness toward the poorer sections of
humanity who hardly have enough to meet their basic
needs.
