On March 30, MP Ray Bonin presented The
Queen's Golden Jubilee to the previous mayors of the Sudbury
Region. It was a very special day for all of us. What made it
extra special for me was to hear the short biography of Charlie
White.
While others served for 12, 17 even 20 years,
Charlie served the people of Walden for 35 years. Charlie
served on the school board, was a councillor in Waters
Township, reeve of Waters Township (14 years), councillor for
Town of Walden and mayor of Walden (nine years).
What they didn't mention was Charlie served
the people of Walden 24 hours a day, every day. When a local
rink needed goal posts, Charlie would make them. When a young
couple, expecting their first child, was snowbound and had to
get to the hospital, Charlie would find a snowplow to get them
out. There was always a small group over Charlie's
well-equipped garage talking about local politics. We were
fortunate to have such a caring individual, who was willing to
give so much to our community and who listened to what the
people wanted.
