YES Theatre has received $150,620 in federal funding to purchase a new lighting console and counterweight fly system that will enhance the quality of productions staged at the theatre.

The funding is provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund and the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program.

This support will enable YES Theatre to fulfill its mission of entertaining, educating and engaging their audience through the creation and presentation of top-quality local, national and international professional theatrical events.

Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe made the announcement March 25 on behalf of the Minister of Canadian Heritage Pascale St-Onge.

The funding is provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund and the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program.

This support will enable YES Theatre to fulfill its mission of entertaining, educating and engaging their audience through the creation and presentation of top-quality local, national and international professional theatrical events, said the press release.

“Cultural infrastructure and arts performances provide the foundation for healthy, vibrant communities and create spaces where people of all backgrounds can connect through shared experiences,” said St-Onge.

“Investments like the one in YES Theatre support delivering more theatrical productions and improve the infrastructure of a place that inspires, brings people together and strengthens Sudbury’s cultural scene.”

“Thanks to this funding, Sudbury’s community will continue to benefit from the incredible creativity and groundbreaking events produced by YES Theatre’s team,” said Lapointe.

“I am thrilled that our government recognizes the importance of culture and arts in our community.”

“We are incredibly grateful for this support from the federal government," said Alessandro Costantini, artistic and managing director of YES Theatre.

"Since we assumed leadership here at the STC, the fly system has been in dire need of a total overhaul. This new system will allow us to drastically increase our production value and economize our process. Sudbury Theatre Centre is one of the only theatres in Northern Ontario with an operational fly gallery. This investment will help us continue our journey towards making our theatre one of the cultural cornerstones of the nation."
