The Greater Sudbury Main Public Library is looking to make something new out of their old books.

The Altered Book Challenge is a collaboration between the Greater Sudbury Main Public Library, the Art Gallery of Sudbury and Sudbury Arts Council.

Contestants are being asked to transform old books from home, used bookstores or books provided from the library into works of art.

Contestants are being given the choice to attempt whatever style of art they choose for the challenge, so long as it stands at under four feet and isn't falling apart. Books about altered book art are available at the Greater Sudbury Main Public Library for guidelines.

Registration forms are available at every branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library and must be submitted before September 11, 2009. Entries will be judged in two categories: best 10 to 14 year old works and 15 years and older. Pieces will be displayed at the main public library during late September.

For more information visit the Greater Sudbury Public Library or phone Kaija Mailloux at 673-1155 ext. 210 or e-mail [email protected] .
