Captain Ray Wiss, M.D., will be honoured with a Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellowship Award, April 7, at the Caruso Club. Wiss joined the Canadian Forces mission in Afghanistan in 2007 and was stationed at the front lines. He treated soldiers in the critical moments after their injuries as the lead medic of an armoured ambulance crew.

He returned to Afghanistan in 2009 to train medical officers in emergency ultrasound techniques. Wiss has written two books: F.O.B. Doc, his personal diary of daily life on the frontline, and A Line in the Sand, Canadians at War in Afghanistan, which is expected to be released in September.

Proceeds from the sales of both books will be donated to the families of fallen soldiers. Books are available in most book stores and at www.amazon.com.

Tickets for the dinner and award presentation are $75 each, and include a signed copy of Wiss’ book ‘FOB Doc”.

For more
information, phone Vicki Jacobs at 671-2114 or Kate Furlotte at 674-4455 ext. 2513. All proceeds from this event will go to the Rotary Foundation World Charities and the Military Families Fund.
