The self-proclaimed The Princess of Pottery, Tashya Orasi, entertained guests last weekend at her new pottery painting studio located at 227 Regent St. in Sudbury's old West End.
Orasi, originally from Sudbury, has returned from Yellowknife to share the knowledge she acquired while way-up-North.
"It is my mission to provide my guests with a truly enchanting pottery painting experience. It's not intimidating or time consuming and really very easy," said Orasi.
People from three to 93 are encouraged to select a piece of raw pottery, called "bisque" to paint and make their own. The shelves are packed with ready-to-paint plates, cups, mugs, teapots, and keepsake items. Really just about anything you can imagine, you can paint.
"Customers just select their piece, get some ideas from our idea centre, select their paint and any tools, paint the pottery and come back to pick up their lead-free, non-toxic, food and dishwasher safe piece in about a week," said Orasi.
She takes care of the glazing and kiln time.
She goes on to say that pottery painting is an affordable hobby that can include the whole family. Some fun ideas are putting baby footprints or handprints on a dish or bowl as a keepsake. Prices vary with the size of the bisque chosen.
The studio offers workshops, classes, theme nights, ladies' nights, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, as well as custom ceramics. Business hours are: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays 11 a.m to 6 p.m.
Interested pottery painters are invited to call The Princess of Pottery at 675-FROG (3764).
