Labour Day Weekend approaches, Sudbury — and we all know what that means: delicious ribs and family fun at Downtown Sudbury Ribfest.

You can count on six rib teams competing for Best Ribs, Best Chicken, Best Sauce and the Peoples' Choice Awards on Minto Street while live music hits the main stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Music, merchandise and craft vendors, as well as the family area will be located in the Sudbury Arena parking lot while the downtown Farmer's Market takes place across the street. It's sure to be a great weekend.

On account of Ribfest's new location, the classic car and motorcycle show has been cancelled.

Here's what to look forward to:

Free admission

Boss Hog's BBQ, Crabby's BBQ Shack, Jack the Ribber, Ribs Royale BBQ, Texas Rangers and Smokehouse Bandits serve up hot, juicy, award-winning meats

Elgin Street Market will bustle as always with local produce and products

Music at this year's Ribfest is 100 per cent local with Friday and Saturday sets continuing until 9 p.m. (Find the full schedule here).

Family fun will be provided by Science North, Niagara Inflatables, free wagon rides and Feel the Rush

Outdoor Movie Night on Saturday: the Karate Kid will be featured in Memorial Park when darkness falls

Sudbury Wolves: First exhibition game against the Ottawa 67's at 7 p.m. on Friday; Sudbury Wolves Training Camp practice 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and public skating 2–4 p.m. Sunday while the Wolves exhibition game against Owen Sound will broadcast inside the arena

In partnership with the United Way (http://uwcneo.com/), proceeds from this year's Downtown Sudbury Ribfest 50/50 draw will support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. For the first time, the raffle will be handled electronically and daily draws will occur from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.
