Award-winning poet reading in Sudbury

Laurentian University's LUminaries Reading Series presents avant-garde poet a. rawlings on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m., in the Brenda Wallace Reading Room at Laurentian University's J. N. Desmarais Library.

The second visitor in Laurentian's 2008-2009 LUminaries Reading Series is Angela Rawlings, known as a. rawlings.

Her first book, Wide slumber for lepidopterists, was published in the spring of 2006 by Coach House Books.

In November 2006, Theatre Community staged a full-length performance of the book as part of Harbourfront Centre's Hatch: Emerging Performance Projects series. Rawlings performed in and co-produced the show.

In April 2007, the book received a nomination for the Gerald Lampert Award for Best First Book of Poetry. It was awarded Alcuin Award for Book Design, and was listed in The Globe and Mail's top 100 books of 2006.

The doors to the Brenda Wallace Reading Room will open at 7:30 p.m. The reading will begin at 8:00 p.m., with discussion, book sales and signing to follow.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served. People are invited to enter from outside entrance "E." Parking is available in lot 4.

The LUminaries Reading Series is sponsored by the Laurentian University English Department, the English Arts Club, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
