Folk and country, the lilt of Cape Breton violin and Finnish folklore combine in the latest release by Vancouver's Back Door Slam. The group will be having a party in Sudbury to celebrate its latest CD, I'll Get Mine, Aug. 22.

The Vancouver based quartet is comprised of Jennie Bice (Prydwen, Mad Pudding, Fear of Drinking) on vocals, fiddle; Tony Rees (the Working Stiffs, the Caboose, Shinybuckle Band) on vocals, guitar and harmonica; Joe Samorodin on bass (Prydwen, Cheap Suit/Big Tie); and Kat Wahamaa (The Mad Cowgirls, Grrrls With Guitars, Angela Harris) on vocals, mandolin, guitar and percussion.

Wahamaa's last solo release, Cascadia, was nominated twice for West Coast Music Awards and she was the first Canadian songwriter chosen as a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. She has shared the stage with such notable musicians as Connie Caldor, Colin Lynden and Harry Manx.

A Sudbury native (formerly from Azilda), Wahamaa says she is delighted to be playing in the area where she grew up.
The group will debut the CD Aug. 22 at S.R.O. (Standing Room Only), 93 Durham Street in Sudbury. Showtime 10:30 pm, cover $5. For more information call S.R.O. 705-670-1361.
