The Modern College of Hairstyling and Esthetic Services is a registered private college located at 10 Elm St., Suite 301, inside the Hatch building.

Students receive hands-on experience with clients, preparing them for employment in the trade of cosmetology. The school opened in 2007 with the esthetics program, followed by the hair program opening up this past January.

In the esthetics program, the students learn nail care, body care, body massage, skin care and make up artistry during an eight-month period.

Practical skills for hairstyling are first taught on a mannequin before using a live model. The students learn shampooing treatments, styling, colouring, retail sales and job searching. This program runs for a 10-month period.

Courses begin every three months. Enrolment is limited to 12 students per start date.

The college offers many services to the public, including hair cuts, relaxation massage, manicures and waxing at affordable prices. Haircuts are $7, pedicures start at $18 , manicures start at $14 and massages start at $20.

There is also a Modern College located in North Bay.
