Durham Street downtown was packed with hundreds of people Saturday for the annual Rotary Downtown Sudbury Blues For Food fundraiser.

Bands such as Tightrope, Hipshake and Jake and the Fundamentals played power blues for the audience. In the rear towards Larch Street, children were entertained by professional children's acts.

Organizers announced significantly more food had been collected than last year.

"We collected 3,214 pounds of non-perishable food compared to 1,600 last year. I would say the event went very well," said Dan Xilon, administrator Sudbury Food Bank.

A final tally will be ready for all donations at the end of the week, said Xilon.
