Jennifer Howarth, president of the Cambrian Students'
Administrative Council (SAC), is the recipient of the Colleges
Ontario student leadership award. The award honours a current
or recent student who has demonstrated exceptional and
innovative leadership in support of the college system.
"Jennifer is an innovative and committed student leader who has
championed and participated in important initiatives and who
has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the success of
her fellow students," said Sylvia Barnard, president of
Cambrian College.
As president of Cambrian's Students' Administrative Council for
two consecutive terms, Howarth is an important contributor to
the college and to student life. Under her leadership, she
re-energized the school council concept and developed a "SAC
Street Team" to promote College events, services and
activities.
Howarth also led SAC's communication outreach strategy through
a redesign of the SAC website and the distribution of a weekly
"SAC Express" bulletin. In addition, Howarth was a key member
in the development of the college's "Respect - Cambrian's Got
It" campaign, which fosters and supports the culture of respect
within the college community.
At the provincial level, Howarth is the president of the
College Student Alliance (CSA), an advocacy and student
leadership organization that serves more than 109,000 student
members from Ontario colleges by promoting their interests at
Queen's Park.
"Jennifer is a true champion for college students and college
education, locally and throughout the province," said Barnard.
"She is an exemplary role model and a deserving recipient
of the Colleges Ontario student leadership award."
