A special celebration will take place on Thursday, October
4, 2007 to pay tribute to Val Caron Public School. When
students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 1 move into the new
Valley View Public School later this year, it will mark the end
of an era in
education for this small school with a rich history.
"We invite former and current students and staff to
join us as we take a walk down memory lane," says
Principal Paul Dupont. "Val Caron Public School, which
opened in 1940, has provided excellence in education to
generations of families in Valley East.
We welcome this occasion to reminisce and to rejoice, all in
the spirit of Thanksgiving."
Activities will take place at the school from 5 pm to 7 pm.
There will be entertainment by Chuck Roberts, Bouncing
Merryland equipment, a popcorn machine, face painting, a slide
show as well as interesting memorabilia and historical
information. Those
attending the festivities will have an opportunity to enjoy a
barbecue and beverages at minimal cost.  Everyone is
welcome to attend.
The new Valley View Public School, located on Valleyview
Road in Val Caron, is one of the first green schools in
Ontario, a flagship school for environmental efficiency and
stewardship.  "This is Rainbow District School
Board's first new school in 40
years and, we are proud to say, it is a model for sustainable
development as a high performance green school," says
Board Chair Dena Morrison.
The new school, which currently houses Grades 2 to 8
students from Valley View Public School, incorporates national
Go Green environmental certification principles, which take
into account industry 'best practices', including
resource consumption, waste
management, building materials, interior environment and
occupant awareness.
"The Val Caron Public School students will be part of
history in the making," says Chair Dena Morrison.
"They will be the youngest students in the first green
school in Northern Ontario." The new Valley View Public
School, which offers the French
Immersion Program, will have a projected enrolment of some 500
students from JK to Grade 8.
