St. Gabriel Villa’s Family Council members greet visitors to the long-term care facility on Mother’s Day.

On Mother’s Day this year, the Family Council at St. Gabriel Villa in Chelmsford set up a special area to greet visitors to the long-term care centre to see loved ones on the special day.

St. Gabriel Villa is a 128-bed long-term care facility that opened its doors in 2010.

Family councils are made up of family members and friends of long-term care residents. The members offer caregiver peer support, educate themselves and learn about issues affecting residents of long-term care facilities.

“Family councils are empowered by legislation and work to improve the experiences of all people in long-term care,” the group said in an email to Sudbury.com.

In conjunction with Family Council Week, which is June 3 to 9, Family Councils Ontario is hosting a virtual conference from June 6-8. The theme is “It Starts with Us.” The event was promoted on Mother’s Day by the Family Council of Villa St. Gabriel Villa.
