On Saturday, May 24, 2008, the community of Greater Sudbury will come together at the home of lumber baron William J. Bell to celebrate our cultural heritage and beginnings in a unique intercultural event entitled the "Greater Sudbury Celtic Festival and Highland Games."

The Francophones, English, Scottish and Irish communities represent the largest ethnic groups in our city and they have all shaped our history in creating the freedom for us to enjoy the community we call home in this the year that we celebrate Greater Sudbury's 125th Anniversary.

Festival events will include the Celtic Pavilion with food and folklore, Children's Activities, Scottish Heavy Games, an Evening Family Concert, Dancing, Cultural Performances, and the Massed Pipes and Drums and we need your help!!

The Festival is inviting community vendors and crafters to be a part of the "Celtic Pavilion". If you are a vendor or community organization that sells arts, crafts, jewelry, gifts, food, ice cream, etc we are looking for you. Ideally, your product would be of Scottish, Irish, or Francophone origin to offer a Celtic flavor.

The festival is also seeking volunteer Celtic Musicians, Story Tellers, Historians, and Artisans to entertain and provide interactive activities in the pavilion. Wither you play a bagpipe or bouzouki, fiddle, mandolin, accordion, Newfoundland Ugly Stick, washboard or squeeze box, read poetry or take pride in talking about your homeland, paint picturest landscapes, weave, spin, do Ironwork or sculpt, this is your opportunity to showcase your talent and share your heritage with the rest of Greater Sudbury.

For more information on participating in the festival, please call Derek Young at 705-691-5677 or email [email protected]
