Mark Haines of Prince Edward Island, and Tom Leighton,
originally of New Brunswick, have been making music for a long
time. Some would claim they date back to the days before the
Dead Sea even knew it was sick. Their traditional and original
repertoire is heavily influenced by their Celtic and Maritime
roots.
These talented performers will raise the roof at Respect Is
Burning Supper Club on Friday, Sept. 21 in a dinner concert in
the intimate Mars Room.
Fans of live music will be wowed by their harmonies and
showmanship on a wide variety of instruments.
Haines and Leighton are making a rare visit to Northern Ontario
as they play in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island. They
have played a variety of venues throughout the world including
festivals in the United Kingdom. They will be performing at the
Summerfolk and Eaglewood Festivals in August.
This songwriting duo exudes a great joie-de-vivre in all their
performances. Haines holds the fort with lead vocals, guitar,
mandolin and fiddle while Leighton provides background vocals
and exhibits his musical prowess on accordion, piano, bodhran,
mandolin, bouzouki, whistle and bass drum. Their shows are
delivered full tilt with a liberal dose of humour.
Haines & Leighton have been nominated for numerous East
Coast Music Awards over the years. In 1996, they were
commissioned to write the music for live performances at the
Canadian Pavilion at the EPCOT Center, Disney World, Florida.
