Pierre Schryer’s Canadian Celtic Celebration will be performing June 18 at the Alphonse Raymond Auditorium located at Laurentian University.

The Canadian Celtic Celebration features Schryer on fiddle, Julie Schryer on piano, Andy Hillhouse on vocals and guitar, and Pat O’Gorman on the bagpipes, flute and whistles. The show will also feature Canadian step dance and Irish dancing.

Schryer is part of the vibrant Franco-Ontarian culture. From an early age he was immersed in the music and traditions of his heritage. As a solo performer, he has received numerous titles and awards, including Canadian Open Fiddle Champion, Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion, Violoneux Championnat, and North American Irish Fiddle Champion.

Schryer truly captivates audiences with his energy, genuine warmth, and flawless ability in any style from Irish and Scottish to Canadian, American, or Swing, according to a release. Schryer’s new CD Melange which was launched in Sudbury last June was nominated Best Instrumental Album at the 2008 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

A portion of the proceeds from this show will support Andrea Shae Hudson, a professional business woman and business coach in Greater Sudbury. She is in critical need of a kidney donation. A group of community leaders are being organized to assist with fundraising for travel and medical cost associated with the transplant and search for a live donor.

“Organ donation is a cause that has been embraced by the Irish and Celtic community in Greater Sudbury, and we would invite all Celts, friends, and family of Andrea to come out and support this great cause while enjoying a fantastic evening of Celtic music,” said Derek Young, the event's promoter.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this family event are on sale now the Sudbury Theatre Centre Box Office or by calling 674-8381. Tickets are $27.75 for general admission seating.
