The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry [Hettie Macdonald, United Kingdom, 2023]

Harold Fry (Broadbent) was never meant to be a hero. He’s an unremarkable man who has failed at all the important things: being a husband, a father, and a friend. Now, well into his 60s, he is content to fade quietly into the background of life. But when Harold learns his friend Queenie (Bassett) is dying, he is moved to embark on a walk of hope and determination to travel the length of England to save his friend.

I Will Not Starve (Non morirò di fame) [Umberto Spinazzola, Canada/Italy, 2023]

An ode to Italian cuisine and an outcry against food waste, this film tells the story of a fallen chef who returns to Turin following the death of his ex-wife. While trying to mend the broken bond with his teenage daughter, he meets a tramp who introduces him to a new way of life, living freely and taking advantage of grocery store food waste to feed himself. Together, they will transform unloved foods into true masterpieces.

The Persian Version [Maryam Keshavarz, United States, 2023]

Iranian-American Leila (Mohammadi) strives to find balance and embrace her opposing cultures, while boldly challenging the labels society is so quick to project upon her. When her family reunites in New York City for her father’s heart transplant, Leila navigates her relationships from arm's length to keep her “real” life separate from her family life. However, when her secret is unceremoniously revealed, so are the distinct parallels between her life and that of her mother.

Suze [Dane Clark & Lindsey Stewart, Canada, 2023]

Chronicling the emotional rollercoaster of a single mother after her only daughter leaves for university on the other side of the country, Suze (Watkins) suddenly feels like she no longer has purpose but quickly finds herself taking care of her daughter’s heartbroken ex- boyfriend who she can’t stand. Suze was filmed in Hamilton, Ontario.

Vincent doit mourir (Vincent Must Die) [Stéphan Castang, France/Belgium, 2023]

Random strangers have suddenly started attacking Vincent (Leklou) with murderous intent. His existence as an unremarkable man is overturned, and as things spiral violently out of control, he is forced to flee and change his life completely.

Who’s Yer Father? [Jeremy Larter, Canada, 2023]

A bumbling private eye (Locke) is hired to investigate the black market sale of Prince Edward Island lobster but gets in over his head when he finds love, blackmail, and murder along the trail .

*Previously announced films also included with the Sunday, September 17 Date Day Pass are Monster (怪物) and Fallen Leaves (Kuolleet lehdet)

The 35th edition of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival will take place September 16-24.
