Cinéfest Sudbury has announced #GenXY, a film programme geared towards Generations X and Y and those cinephiles who love living in, and learning about, the digital-realm of the 18-35 crowd.

From comedy-to-drama, action-to-horror, #GenXY has all the “Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll” that will appeal to those younger cinephiles who are looking for their next great-film-hit, a press release said.

Antibirth [Danny Perez, USA/Canada, IFC, 2016

Starring: Natasha Lyonne, Chloë Sevigny, Mark Webber, Meg Tilly, Maxwell McCabe-Lokos

Trailer dweller Lou (Lyonne) and her best friend Sadie (Sevigny) spend most of their nights steeped in a murky haze of pot smoke and booze-filled TV-watching sessions, venturing out on occasion to party in a desolate community full of drug-addled ex-Marines and other miscreants of society.

After an otherwise normal night of self-destructive behavior, Lou awakens with symptoms of a bizarre illness and psychosomatic visions that she can’t seem to shake. Something otherworldly has infected her body, and try as she might, it refuses to be ignored.

Weirdos [Bruce McDonald, Canada, FilmsWeLike 2016

Starring: Allan Hawco, Molly Dunsworth, Julia Sarah Stone, Dylan Authors, Molly Parker

Nova Scotia. 1976. It’s the weekend of the American Bicentennial and 15-year-old Kit (Authors) is running away from home. Enlisting the help of his girlfriend Alice (Stone), Kit hitchhikes through the stunning maritime landscape towards a new home with his glamorous, artistic mother Laura (Parker). However, as Kit and Alice near their final destination they find their relationship tested as Kit approaches a realization that will change his life forever.

Wizard Mode [Nathan Drillot and Jeff Lee Petry, Blue Ice Docs, Canada, 2016

In the game of pinball, there is no greater reward than Wizard Mode – a hidden level that is only unlocked when a player completes a series of lightning-speed challenges. Robert Emilio Gagno has dedicated most of his life to mastering Wizard Mode, and is now one of the top pinball players in the world. He also happens to have autism.

Wizard Mode, Salazar Film’s first feature documentary, is a candid personal perspective on autism through the life of one of the world’s greatest pinball players. The film follows Robert as he seeks to balance his quest to become a world pinball champion and his growing real world responsibilities, culminating at the largest pinball tournament in the world, Pinburgh, in Pittsburgh, PA.

All #GenXY screenings will take place at SilverCity Sudbury, located at 355 Barrydowne Rd. The 28th edition of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival runs from Sept. 17-25.
