The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is looking for citizens across the province to help shape a policy on prescription drugs.

The Ministry will select 25 citizens to sit on a grassroots council that will meet twice a year.

At each get-together, they'll hear from an expert about a serious topic the ministry is dealing with, then deliberate on it, said Helen Stevenson, assistant deputy minister and executive officer of the Ontario Public Drug Programs. She added, "We want to hear the views of Ontarians, especially for these difficult topics."

The only requirement is that you be 18 or older and not: a health care professional, an employee of a health charity or company, an elected official or a Ministry of Health employee.

The council is modelled after one in the U.K. which discusses big health policy questions, Stevenson said.

Members will be paid $150 a day and reimbursed for travel costs. You can apply online or call the info line at 1-866-532-3162. The deadline for applications is Monday, June 30 at 5 p.m.
