Dust off your sheet music and bust out your metronome, Larch Street just became more musical.

Jazz Sudbury unveiled its Keys to the City community piano project Aug. 12 that will call the space outside the Kuppajo Espresso Bar at 109 Larch St. home for the next couple weeks.

The piano features original artwork by local artist Johanna Westby. Westby recently won the Outstanding Emerging Artist award at the 2016 Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts.

“It’s a beautifully painted piece that is a testament to the tremendous talent we have here in Greater Sudbury,” said Marc Gareau, festival manager for Jazz Sudbury. “We’re hoping this inspires even more people to share, engage, and discover music and the arts.”

The piano will be open for the public to play between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekends.

The project name, Keys to the City, reflects the piano's ultimate goal of inspiring community participation in the dynamic arts and culture scene in Greater Sudbury.

Keys to the City strives to provide the community with a new venue for telling stories and celebrating the arts.

Jazz Sudbury is a local not-for-profit organization hosting its eighth annual Jazz Sudbury Festival Sept. 7-11. For more information about Jazz Sudbury, visit www.jazzsudbury.ca or contact [email protected].
