Canadian singer/songwriter Sean Hogan is organizing the fifth Canadian Country Christmas tour, which happens at the Fraser Auditorium, Nov. 21 at 8:30 p.m.

The net proceeds of this concert will be donated to the Salvation Army Christmas Penny Drive.

"To date this event has raised more than $60,000 for food banks, hospital foundations, care centres, hospitals, boys and girls clubs, schools, gift drives and cancer research," said Hogan.

Tickets are available at the Sudbury Theatre box office or by calling 674-8381, ext. 21. They cost $31.75 for adults, $26.75 for seniors and $11.75 for children 12 and under.

Northern Life reporter Judi Koski was able to talk with Hogan about the tour via e-mail.

Q. Why are you coming to Sudbury?
A. Because as country artists we have received a great amount of support over the years and this is truly a great way to give back to various communities. This year's proceeds go to the Sudbury Salvation Army, and in 2004 and 2005 the contribution went to the Knights of Columbus in Hanmer.

Q. Who else is on tour with you?
A. Contemporary country artists Jamie Warren, Duane Steele and Chris Henderson.

Q. Do you have a family connection to Sudbury?
A. No I don't but over the years we have travelled with Gil Grand, Diane Chase and Jake Matthews, who were all originally from the area.

Q. Why do you do what you do?
A. I do what I do, meaning write and sing, because I find it a challenging and rewarding way to make a living. I have done this since 1994 and as an original artist since 1996.

Q. Where has your career taken you?
A. I have released five albums in Canada, 17 music videos on CMT and won multiple awards including Canadian Country Music Awards including two C.C.M.A. Awards.

Q. How did you get the idea of a Christmas tour?
A. I wrote a song called It's Christmas Time in 2003 and it became a video in 2004. I thought why not get a group of artists together and go out to perform Christmas concerts that were a split of country and Christmas. It's been a very good vehicle.
