Sudbury Performance Group is bringing the star of CBC's The Debaters Derek Seguin back to Sudbury for a show at the Trevi Bar and Grill on Saturday, Feb. 25.

The doors open at 5 p.m. for the early show beginning at 7 p.m. and then doors open again at 10 p.m. for the 11 p.m. late show.

“Derek always brings a laugh-riot to Sudbury when he comes to work with SPG,” said Mark Mannisto, President of Sudbury Performance Group, in a press release. “His humor is honest, raw and, at times, not the most politically correct; but that's why we love him."

The weekend Derek will be in Sudbury not only to perform but to pass along some guidance to one of Sudbury's rising stars, Charlie Adams.

Adams will be opening for Seguin, and will be receiving a mentorship from Seguin after the show. The audience will be able to sit in on the conversation.

"Charlie is a retired music teacher who has been practicing comedy for the past decade or so and has been honing his craft nicely,” said Mannisto. “By hosting comedy shows on Manitoulin Island, he sharpened his skills the best way possible: by performing. Getting some sage advice from Derek will only elevate his comedy stylings to the next level.”

Montreal-based Seguin is one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians on the international circuit. He has performed at the prestigious invitation-only Just For Laughs festival an impressive 11 times as well as appearing numerous times at every other major festival in the country, making several television appearances along the way.

At a past Just for Laughs festival, GQ Magazine’s comedy editor reported about JFL that: “Montreal-comic Derek Seguin stole one of the most star-studded gala shows last year from host Whitney Cummings. This year, he appeared in The Nasty Show and proceeded to steal that too. A true star and Montreal’s pride and joy.”

He has also appeared on CBC Radio’s, “The Debaters” more than 40 times and is one of the show’s fan favourites.

One of Canada’s hottest comedians, Seguin walked away with the top prize of Sirius XM’s Canada’s Top Comic competition, a contest that spanned the entire country with finalists from every major city.

In March 2021, it was announced that Seguin’s latest Album, PanDerek – 1st Wave had been nominated for a Juno award. Yet another milestone in an illustrious and hilarious career.

Seguin and Adams' performance takes place this Saturday night (February 25) at the Trevi Restaurant. Tickets are $35 (or you can get VIP meet and greet tickets for $55) and can be purchased at www.sudburyperformance.ca or by phoning 705-662-8518.
