Cheri Corbiere found the going tough at Manitoulin Secondary School. A mother at 17, she found the subjects hard to grasp. When the guidance counsellor asked her what she wanted to do, going to university to study nursing wasn't her first answer.
But that's exactly what she did. Corbiere graduated from Cambrian College/Laurentian University with a bachelor of science in nursing on May 29. In fact, she graduated with a perfect grade point average of 4.0.
"Cheri Corbiere is an excellent student," college president Sylvia Barnard told the audience as she presented Corbiere with The President's Gold Medal.
