The opening act for this year's Sudbury SummerFest is Canadian Country Music recording artist Gord Bamford.
On top of the success of his sixth studio album, "Country Junkie," released in October 2013, Bamford has already won ten CCMA’s awards, including Songwriter of the Year in 2012 and 2013, as well as Album of the year in 2013.
The Bamford concert will open SummerFest’s 2014 festival Aug. 21, with Brett Kissel, the youngest CCMA nominee ever, and one of Canada’s fastest rising country stars, as the supporting act.
“We are really excited to kick this year’s festival off with an amazing night of Canadian country music artists,” said SummerFest board member Chris Nerpin, in a press release.
“And SummerFest is known as the venue of choice for up and coming local talent. We bring in the best of Canada’s current superstars and showcase our local talent and future stars, all for our community to enjoy.”
More headliners, musical acts, performers, and artisans will be announced over the coming weeks.
SummerFest takes place Aug. 21-24 at Bell Park. Main stage concerts are held at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre and secondary stages are set up throughout the park.
The festival also offers a carnival, water-ski show, and numerous other events.
Tickets start at $29.95 (plus taxes and fees) and go on sale May 30 at the Sudbury Theatre Centre Box Office. To purchase tickets, phone 705-674-8381.
