As part of the Doors Open event at Minnow Lake Place (1127 Bancroft Dr.) there will be an art show by three local artists.

The exhibition will take place in the gymnasium of the former Ecole St. Jean, which now is the home of several non-profit organizations including Meals on Wheels, Our Children Our Future and Sudbury Minnow Hockey Association.

Artwork will be on display Friday, July 18 and Saturday July 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will be able to tour Minnow Lake Place.  Meals on Wheels will provide treats for those attending and admission is free.

The Artists:

Dominique Viau: A native Sudburian, Dominique is an applied arts graduate and works as a graphic designer. Dominique's electives in college were printmaking and sculpture. She continues to work with these mediums. She is self-taught in acrylic painting. She exhibits her paintings, sculptures and printmaking at the Sudbury Art Club's bi-annual exhibition and at the Northern Ontario Art Association juried art show. Dominique's work has already been collected by private collectors. "I am truly grateful that I can work in a field which gives me so much pleasure," she said, in a release.

Richard Haywood: This artist moved to Sudbury from England as a teenager. Now retired, he worked for over thirty years in the architectural field, mostly as a designer. Having received no formal art training, Richard takes his love for the northern landscape and joins that with his love of painting. He paints from life, floral, figure studies and landscapes. Richard says, "I have painted in oils all my life, finding unending inspiration in the northern landscape. Each painting is an adventure in paint, each canvas a wonderful new challenge."

Royce Simpson: A lifelong resident of Sudbury, Royce brings a historical perspective to his work. He has studied under many well-known artists including Robert Bateman with whom he shares an appreciation of nature that is reflected in his work.

Bonus Exhibit Feature: A Minnow Lake resident and artist/craftsperson, Bridget Thompson, has just introduced a new art form to Canada as the exclusive distributor of a unique product that allows virtually anyone to create sculptures and other works of art from remnants of cloth and other everyday products.
