A little more than a year after opening its doors in downtown Sudbury, Guilty Pleasures Bakeshop has been selected as one of only six teams to compete in the 18th annual Retail Bakers Association’s Pillsbury Bakers Plus Grand Champion Creative Decorating Competition.
The two-day competition, one of the baking industry’s most prestigious competitions for professional bakers, will take place Sept. 8 and 9 at the International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas.
“I still can’t believe we’ve been chosen to compete among some of the best cake decorators in North America,” said Guilty Pleasures owner Justine Martin.
“I truly want to thank all our amazing clients who have entrusted us with their most precious celebrations. Without the tremendous support we’ve received from the community, we’d never have been able to hone our skills to where they are now.”
The decorating competition calls on professional cake decorators and pastry chefs to showcase their creativity, imagination, artistry and skills in four categories: wedding cake, rolled fondant cake, sculpted cake and a surprise theme to be announced during.
Of the six finalists, two were chosen to compete by winning a regional competition, while the remaining four — this includes Guilty Pleasures — were chosen based on a portfolio submission.
The highest scoring team, as determined by a panel of judges, will be awarded the coveted Pillsbury Baker’s Plus Grand Champion Trophy. Gold, silver and bronze medals, along with cash prizes, will also be awarded for the highest three scores in each individual category.
Famed culinary director and TV host of the Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie Angela May will be the commentator and provide her expertise on the event.
