Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl returns June 1

Twenty downtown venues participating in event 

The Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl returns Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Twenty downtown venues welcome you to visit exhibits by local artists, free of charge. The Art Crawl offers citizens the opportunity to celebrate all that is local. 

Some studios will also have goods for sale, as well as pop up musical performances throughout the afternoon. 

The Sudbury Arts Council will kick off the event at 10 a.m. with a booth at the Greater Sudbury Market, which also opens this day, where visitors can grab a paintbrush and leave their mark on this year’s community-made mandala. 

Below is a list of participating venues and artists: 

1. Art Gallery of Sudbury – 251 John St. (at Nelson St.)
Featuring “Emergence” exhibition composed of works of art from secondary school students of the Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury District Catholic School Board, le conseil scolaire publique du Grand Nord de l'Ontario and le conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.

2. Artist Loft on Larch, 2nd floor at Apple Cart Collectables – 280 Larch St.
Featuring special guest artists.

3. Greater Sudbury Market – 233 Elgin St. (at Minto St.) open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
Featuring artist Helen Townsend.

4. Laughing Buddha Offsite Venue (Art Gallery of Sudbury / Galerie d’art de Sudbury) – 194 Elgin St.  Featuring a painting exhibition by Carmen Martorella.

5. Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario – 174 Elgin St. 
Featuring “Lips of one thousand nine hundred ninety six teachers” by Patrick Cruz (on view through June 28).

6. Monique Legault Studio – 172 Elgin St.
Featuring fine art to home décor by Monique Legault. 

7. Artists on Elgin – 168 Elgin St. 
Featuring “A View of Nature” painting exhibition by Bill Whittaker and Artists demonstrating their creative processes.

8. Sudbury Paint & Custom Framing Co. – 164 Elgin St. 
Featuring special guest artists. 

9. Good Luck General Store – 149 Durham St. 
Featuring artwork by Selacia Lafleur. 

10. One Sky – Northern Merchantile – 125 Durham St.
Featuring Ri-Posate Idee: Sculpture by Antonella Rocca.

Featuring artwork, cards and ornaments by Jan Browning, Tammy Gervais and Lois Poulin.

16. Kuppajo Espresso Bar – 109 Larch St. 
Featuring special guest artist(s). 

17. The Motley Kitchen – 70 Young St. 
Featuring artwork by Tamara Gagnon, Big Turtle Woman (Turtle Clan). Working with various mediums such as clay, acrylic and the written word, her work is inspired by nature, community and healing.

18. DIY Craftery & Lounge – 43 Elm St. 
Featuring special guest artist(s). In addition, a special up to 15-minute project will be available to create on site ($20/person–please inquire directly).

19. Stitch & Stone – 58 Cedar St. 
Featuring artwork by Julienne Steadman and “Purging Shame” mixed-media installation by Sew Local Stitch Lounge (April and Marja Lafreimallman).

20. The Cedar Nest Décor Café – 11 Cedar St. 
Featuring special guest artist(s). 

21. Starlotte Satine Vintage – 25 Elgin St. 
Featuring Sydney Rose (collage/mixed media).
