Sudbury Northern Life

Acadian singing star Edith Butler is currently on a cross-Canada farewell tour that will bring her to Sudbury's Fraser auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. She has been touring internationally for over four decades.

Her international stardom goes somewhat unnoticed at home, where she is simply known as the girl from Paquetville, New Brunswick who revels in rollicking down-home party music when she's not tugging at heartstrings with her inspiring ballads.

But Canada Post knows a Canadian icon when it sees one. In 2009, Edith Butler will appear in a series of four stamps honouring our country's top recording artists, alongside Bryan Adams, Stompin' Tom Connors and Robert Charlebois.

With 21 record albums to her credit, Edith Butler is one of few international singing stars our country has produced. Since 1971, she has criss-crossed Canada countless times and has made yearly trips to America, Japan and a number of European countries. However her last appearances in Sudbury go back to the 70s and early 80s.

For this farewell appearance, Edith Butler tells audiences to expect her greatest hits in French, in an acoustic format with some storytelling, anecdotes and amusing asides thrown in for good measure.

This performance is hosted by la Slague du Carrefour francophone, Greater Sudbury's francophone production house. Advance tickets are available at the TNO ticket office at 675-5606, ext. 4. For further information about this event, contact la Slague at 675-6493 ext. 203.
