If you'd like to take in Emergence, the Art Gallery of Sudbury's annual exhibition of local secondary students' artwork, you have until Mother's Day — Sunday, May 14.

So why not treat mom to a trip to the art gallery?

The Emergence exhibition represents a cross-section of artistic development from grades 9 through 12 in painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and mixed media. Whether intuitive, expressive or conceptual, these works speak of the process of growth, exploration, maturation and the artistic nurturing of the soul.

More than 200 pieces of original art were submitted to the Art Gallery of Sudbury. Those entries were later judged by a selection committee made up of three prominent local artists and arts educators:
Mary-Anne Secord, Bill Whittaker, and Mariana Lafrance. Selection was based on the artist’s use of materials; application of artistic elements and design principles; and creativity and originality.
