The Moulettes play a house concert in Sudbury Oct. 15.

Sudburians have a chance to catch the Moulettes from England in concert this weekend, who are on their second Canadian tour.

The last time they were in Canada, they did huge main stage concerts at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Calgary Folk Festival, the Vancouver Folk Festival and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

A truly unique five piece band from the UK, Moulettes, will perform live in a private home in Sudbury on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Anyone can attend.

Tickets are available online and are selling quickly online here

Renowned for their breathtaking live shows, few bands have the creative range of Moulettes. With a brave approach to production and arrangement, Moulettes have unusually creative ways of blending acoustic and electric instruments - for example, by putting bassoons and stringed instruments through pedals and valve amps.

They weave several genres with cello, violins, guitars, drums, bassoon, double bass, brass and synths into an incomparable pop/rock/folk universe.

Exercising both delicacy and fierceness, female songwriter and cellist, Hannah Miller, creates an otherworldly framework in which fantastical characters move between the realms of nature, magic and science.

The band also contains a mix of self taught and classically trained multi-instrumentalists and singers who will often play more than one instrument per song and even at the same time.

Compared to artists as diverse as Pink Floyd and Kate Bush, this group continues to push the boundaries of acoustic, and sometimes electric contemporary songwriting and instrumentation.  What is consistent in every recording they have made is a combination of lush, catchy melodies, ethereal lyrics and a unique sound that blends folk and pop with strings.

On this tour, Moulettes will be heavily featuring strings from their current project, "Xenolalia."
