Entry period for 2011 Music and Film Awards now open

Entries are now being accepted for Music and Film in Motion's eighth annual Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards.

To be eligible for an award, artists much have been born in northern Ontario, lived in northern Ontario for at least five consecutive years or have lived in northern Ontario for eight consecutive months from January 1, 2009 to October 15, 2010.

At least 50 per cent of groups must meet these requirements to be eligible for group awards. For the contest, northern Ontario includes the districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Temiskaming and Muskoka.

According to a press release from Music and Film in Motion (MFM), aboriginal and French submissions are welcomed. If four or more Francophone or aboriginal entries are submitted in certain categories, MFM will offer separate awards.

Awards are up for grabs in a variety of categories, including best album by a solo artist, album by a duo or group, songwriter, engineer, vocal performance on a recording, film, director, film editor, cinematographer and screenwriter.

To be eligible for awards, submissions must have been released between January 1, 2009 and October 15, 2010.

To submit an entry, MFM members must submit their entry and $10 to MFM, and non-members must submit $29 per submission. Artists can enter themselves or be nominated.

Prominent individuals from Canada's music and film industries will select winners and announce them at an awards ceremony on April 30, 2011.
