Artist Véronique Doucet presents the project Aldermac-Mining Plantation at La Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario in collaboration with the Community Committee on the Sudbury Soil Study.

The exhibit runs until May 9.

Plantation miniére in Sudbury marks the completion the work of artistic and environmental research.

Undertaken in 2002, this research studies the devastation brought about by the stockpiling of 1.5 million tons of acidic mining residues in a 76-hectare area.

The artist fought to bring environmental rehabilitation of the Aldermac slag dump at Arntfield, 24 kilometers from Rouyn-Noranda, with the help of the Conseil régional en environnement de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue (CREAT).

The site is now under rehabilitation.

This exhibit contains a pictorial installation presenting a map of the Aldermac site and of the artists travels, an experimental video documenting the work done by her environmental militia and a series of photos and samples of pH levels in water, documenting the artist's discoveries.

The artist will talk about the project May 9 at 3 p.m. at the GNO, 174 Elgin St. Admission for the talk is free. For more information, phone 673-4927.
