Local residents took part in the second annual Park(ing) day on Sept. 17.
Throughout the day, residents took over parking spots on Elgin Street as part the "urban art," meant to make people think about how space is used in our cities' cores, Pete Paradis, the organizer of the event, said.
"There is a lot of space devoted to parking, but no benches, or places for people to 'park' and socialize," he said.
He said the event saw twice as many participants this year than last.
Park(ing) Day takes place in 130 cities spread out through 30 countries worldwide, and used more than 900 parking spaces. According to Paradis, Greater Sudbury is one of a few Canadian cities that took part in the event.
