After several weeks of hard work by many volunteers, the annual Sudbury Charities Foundation Festival of Lights is now brightly shining at Science North.
Santa was on hand for the kickoff event Nov. 27 and was handing out candy canes to those who braved the cold to enjoy the light displays.
"Well Mrs. Claus and I decided to make a special trip down here because the Sudbury Charities have done such an absolutely incredible job with the Festival of Lights," said Santa. "It's a spectacular, spectacular sight that everybody should come out and visit."
Sudbury Charities has been doing this annually since 1991.
"At the Festival of Lights alone, we raise between twenty-six and twenty thousand dollars. We're using all the money to donate to underprivileged children in the community," said John Querney, chair of Sudbury Charities Foundation.
"The group this year is the Sudbury-Manitoulin Send a Kid to Camp program and the Ten Rainbows Foundation."
Sudbury Charities has been doing this annually since 1991. The festival will be running until Ukrainian Christmas on Jan. 7, 2009. The lights will be turned on from 5 to 11 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays, and from 5 p.m until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
