The City of Lakes Family Health Team opened it's first site Thursday at 1679 Main St. in Val Caron (former Valley East Town Hall).

The Family Health Team is a group of health care providers, such as nurses, doctors, pharmacists and dieticians, who work together to provide primary care to patients.

It is one of 150 family health teams established by the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care across the Province of Ontario and is a partnership initiative of the City of Greater Sudbury, the Sudbury Regional Hospital and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

Nine family physicians and three nurse practitioners have recently joined the team. The Val Caron clinical team, under the leadership of Dr. David Topps, already has 400 new patients and are welcoming more.

Other sites that will be opening in the future are in Walden, Chelmsford and Pioneer Manor, which is currently undergoing construction of the new site.
